Director’s Lecture: Photography and the Femme Fatale
The image of the femme fatale, a mysterious and seductive woman, beloved of artists of the Art Nouveau and Symbolist period, gained renewed impetus with the emergence of the film industry and associated photography in the 1920s and 30s. Hear from the Frick’s director about photographers such as Edward Steichen, George Hurrell and Clarence Sinclair Bull who were instrumental in creating the femme fatale personas of a generation of film stars including Marlene Dietrich, Great Garbo and Joan Crawford.
