Expanded Megabus Service from Pittsburgh

Megabus.com has made Pittsburgh the sixth hub on its fast-growing North American network, adding service to nine new cities: Akron, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Toledo, Detroit, Toronto, Erie and Buffalo.  That brings to 15 the number of cities served directly from Pittsburgh by the carrier; cities already accessible from Pittsburgh were State College, Harrisburg, Philadelphia, New York, Washington and Camden, N.J. 

Trips to the new cities can be booked immediately, with service beginning on May 11.  Travelers who make reservations well in advance can sometimes travel for as little as $1, but prices rise as the travel date draws nearer and buses begin to fill.   The company uses both single- and double-decker buses and offers free Wi-Fi and power outlets.

Megabus.com is able to offer lower fares because it doesn't maintain bus stations and takes most of its reservations online.  Trips from Pittsburgh originate at a stop on 11th Street under the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

Pittsburgh joins Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Toronto and Washington, D.C., as hubs for the company, which relaunched service here less than a year ago.  The Megabus network currently connects over 40 cities throughout the Northeast and Central states.
