Pittsburgh Irish Festival

Stop by the 22nd Annual Pittsburgh Irish Festival this weekend!  The festival will be held Friday through Sunday September 7-8-9, 2012 at Riverplex at 1000 Sandcastle Drive in West Homestead.

The weekend’s activities will include Irish food and drink, games, music, dance and special activities for the little ones.  The Irish dog area will feature dogs native to Ireland and the Irish Marketplace will offer shopping booths with a vast array of Irish items for sale. See demonstrations of unique skills passed along from generation to generation and try your hand at making a piece of Irish art to take home.  Looking for lost family members?  A Genealogy Pavilion will have information on how to research for family tree and members of Pittsburgh’s Irish organizations will be on hand with information about their services and activities.

Mt. Lebanon's Earth Day Celebration

Mt. Lebanon’s 5^th Annual Earth Day Celebration at Mt. Lebanon Park is expected to be their best yet.  Join in on Saturday, April 28 from 10am until 2pm for an array of fun and educational events.  This free environmental fair will include over 50 displays and vendors. Along with many regional and township non-profits offering information and demonstrations on saving energy and conserving resources, there will be live music, great food, a farmers market, the I Made It! art and crafts market, kids activities, and much, much more.

Chili with the Works

Vote for your favorite local chili at the 3rd Annual 2012 Spring Arts & Chili Festival at the South Side Works on Saturday, April 14.  Dozens of area restaurants will offer up samples of their chili from 2-8pm in hopes of being named Best in the ‘Burgh!  Enjoy chili samples, a children’s area, live music on two stages, sidewalk sales, and more.  Between tastings, visit the I Made It!Market, with over 50 vendors showcasing local arts and crafts.  After the chili, stay for a street party from 8-11pm.

Attendance is free. Chili tastings are 4 for $5, 8 for $8, and 12 for $11. $1 off all packages with a college ID.  In case of rain, the festival will be rescheduled for May 12th.

Art in the City April 3-12

Stop by the City-County Building downtown for ArtWORKS, an exhibit of art and crafts by our talented city employees.  The exhibit, featuring paintings, photography, sculpture, mixed media and crafts, is free to the public and will be open weekdays 8am–5pm from April 2nd through 12th.  An opening reception will be held April 3rd from 5:30-8 pm.

31st Latin American and Caribbean Festival

A Pittsburgh tradition since 1979, the 31st Latin American and Caribbean Festival will be held Saturday, March 31 at the William Pitt Union, Oakland.  The festival is a free cultural event, attracting thousands of individuals from a multicultural community.

Visitors will find booths offering the authentic cuisine of Peru, Cuba, Brazil, Columbia, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Venezuela, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados and Jamaica.  Enjoy local and international musicians, traditional dance, handmade arts and crafts, and children’s activities.  Among the over 30 organizations present will be many local language and service groups with a Latin American and Caribbean emphasis.  Learn to speak Portuguese, or where to go to Tango in Pittsburgh!

Art, Music, Dance, Film, Architecture, FREE!

Four times a year, The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust hosts a free “open house” in the Cultural District. The popular Gallery Crawl is the perfect way to enjoy a variety of visuals arts and entertainment, free and open to the public, at galleries and art spaces throughout the Cultural District.

All events take place in galleries and spaces within the Downtown Cultural District, a fourteen-square block area bordered by the Allegheny River on the north, Tenth Street on the east, Stanwix Street on the west, and Liberty Avenue on the south.  The Gallery Crawl is ongoing between 5:30 and 9:00 pm, and visitors may start at any time in any location.

2012 Gallery Crawls are scheduled for four Friday evenings:

         January 27
         April 27
         July 13
         September 28
