2014 Greek Food Festivals

Summer is just around the corner, and that means food festivals galore! Greek festivals can be an affordable place to grab a tasty meal…and you’ll usually get some fun entertainment, too. 

The first festival is this weekend at St Nicholas in Oakland:
May 4-11, 2014

St Nicholas - 419 S. Dithridge St., Oakland

 

 

Hours: Sunday – Thursday 11am – 9pm, Friday – Saturday 11 am-10 pm (music until midnight)

Credit cards are accepted and there is an ATM on the premises. You can also go to www.stnickpgh.org to place a take-out order.

Marathon Weekend

If you didn't register to run, you can still be a part of the race weekend fun - register to volunteer and support runners! Every volunteer will receive: an official volunteer t-shirt, $10 DICK'S Sporting Goods gift certificate, Volunteer of STEEL lapel pin, and an Invite to the Volunteer Appreciation Party. Of course, you can also be a spectator.

May Market at Phipps Conservatory
 – May 9 and 10

A nice outing for Mothers' Day! Check out a huge selection of high-quality garden plants from Phipps and local garden clubs on Phipps’ lawn. You’ll find sustainable plants, tropical plants, native and rain garden plants, organic herb and vegetable seedlings, bulbs, and water plants.

Phipps staff and Master Gardeners will be on hand to share advice, and delicious hand-dipped fondant strawberries will be served.

The Market is held on the lawn and parking is a bit limited so come with a friend, wear boots or comfy shoes and bring newspapers or plastic to protect your car.

Location: Phipps Conservatory, 1 Schenley Park, Pittsburgh, PA 

Time: 9:30am until 7pm on Friday, and 9:30am until 5pm on Saturday

Cost: Free to attend, plus half-off admission to Phipps Conservatory during Market hours. Note: some vendors accept cash only.

Silk Screen  Asian American Film Festival
April 26th – May 4th

The Festival features 47 screenings of 27 films at four locations and showcases the best in Asian and Asian-Amercan film. This year films will be playing at Regent Square Theater, Melwood Screening Room, Carnegie Museum of Natural History’s Earth Theater, and Waterworks Cinemas.

The Festival opens with Palestine’s Oscar-nominated film “Omar” on April 26th and closes with the Japanese melodrama “Mourning Recipe” on May 4^th. Foodies, thrill seekers, and sports fans alike will enjoy the line-up including a remake of the Oscar-winning “Unforgiven”, Bollywood-style films, a documentary about cricket, and family drama about hula dancing culture.
