eWaste Recycling - Aug 25

It’s time to trek down to the basement or up to the attic and drag out broken televisions, empty batteries and other items you can’t dump at the curb.

The Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC) will be holding two more collection events in western Pennsylvania for hard-to-recycle items and household chemicals in August and October.

Events are Saturdays  from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., giving you the chance to safely dispose of materials that can’t be tossed in the trash or a recycling bin.

Free: Individuals can drop off “e-waste” such as computers, cell phones, printer/toner cartridges, CFLs and expandable polystyrene packaging material at no cost.

For a fee: individuals can drop off alkaline batteries, televisions, computer monitors, fluorescent tubes, small Freon appliances and tires.

2018 hard-to-recycle collection schedule:

• August 25 (Century III Mall, West Mifflin, Allegheny County)
• October 6 (Settlers Cabin Park, Robinson Township, Allegheny County)

Friday Nights at the Frick - thru Aug 31
The Frick Pittsburgh is open on Friday evenings rain or shine. In cases of rain, please check the website and social media pages for outdoor activity and performance updates. When necessary, updates will be posted by 4:30 p.m. 

Aug 17- In Bed by 10 Dance Party 
Designed for people who can’t stay out until 1:00 a.m. anymore but still want to get down, In Bed by Ten mixes old school classics with new school jams to create a non-stop party. Created in 2015 by Matthew Buchholz and Kelly Beall, the event also raises money for local charities, with over $16,000 distributed in 2017 alone.

Free Admission. Dine at The Café, grab a quick bite, glass of wine, or beer from The Café Wine Bar, sample fare from a variety of local food trucks or bring your own picnic basket.

GARLIC FESTIVAL Saturday & Sunday –  August 18th &  19th

HOUSEHOLD CHEMICAL COLLECTIONS

                                                  Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
                                                  (see locations and dates below)

You may drop off automotive fluids, household cleaners, pesticides, paints and other household chemicals for a cost of $3/gallon (a few exceptions apply), cash only. New in 2018: Collections will accept smoke detectors for a fee of $3/each.

Explore the Aviary after hours and keep your eyes peeled for opportunities to personally meet some of our penguin colony. After you make some feathered friends, make a craft to bring home with you and settle in for a movie in our theater! Before you say goodnight, help us put the penguins to bed with a story.
