FOURTH ANNUAL CHILI COOK-OFF



Expect heated competition when Pittsburgh Firefighters from Engine 8 compete against chefs from Giant Eagle Market District. Firefighters has won the competition every year since its launch in 2011.You can sample the chili, including the firefighters’ famous “Dragonslayer" in exchange for making donations.  All money collected will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Western Pennsylvania.

Mexican War Streets H&G Tour


 
 
 
 
 
 
 

One of the oldest and finest house tours in the city! Visitors will be treated to a leisurely self-guided tour of homes and gardens throughout this historic neighborhood on Pittsburgh’s North Side. The House Tour will also showcase a midway of vendors, with food service provided by the Monterey Pub and All in Good Taste Productions.

Pre-sale tickets are available now for $18 per person, or $15 for groups of 10 or more. You may also buy tickets for $20 per person on the day of the tour at the ticket booth on Monterey Street at West North Avenue.  Purchase tickets on line. Tickets will be held for Will Call at the ticket booth on the day of the tour.

3rd Annual Chile Pepper Farm Festival

 


Have you ever eaten chiles from Hatch, New Mexico? Your blogger has – they are wonderful!  Try sautéing roasted chiles and adding to scrambled eggs or, add them to a burger.
Reyna Foods is hosting its third annual Chile Festival. In addition to roasting Hatch chiles, there will be wine, spirits and beer tastings, various local chefs, sharing and demonstrating their delicious chile pepper recipes, local farmers selling fresh produce, local artists and crafters selling their unique merchandise and creations, local bands performing all throughout the day as well as games, raffles, hay rides (extra cost), and a really fun kids zone.

Sept 12: Lawrenceville Turns 200!

Love Lawrenceville and feel like celebrating?  Or do you just want to find a reason to head over to one of Pittsburgh's hottest neighborhoods?  Well here's your chance.  Lawrenceville will be turning 200 this year and Row House Cinemas isn't going to let the date slip by without a party.  On Sept 12, Friday, they will be hosting an event with themed movies, food and drink (let's not forget that they have a craft beer shop attached to the theater), photography exhibit, and lectures.  All ages are welcome!

Become a Middle School Mentor             
 

You can make a difference this Fall at the Obama Academy. Training is provided, and the meeting time is Thursdays at 12:35pm. Middle Schoolers with mentors:

* Are more engaged in school
* Get better grades
* Make attendance a priority
* Enjoy time with their mentors
* Learn about all kinds of things


 
Monthly meetings are held the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM at the Union Project. Meetings are not held in July or December.
