RiverLights at The Point

The transformation of Point State Park is complete and will be celebrated with a dedication ceremony, musical entertainment and a special lighting installation throughout the park. Attendees will see the fountain turned back on for the first time since it was shut off for reconstruction in April 2009.

The reopening celebration, called “RiveLlights at The Point,” commemorates the conclusion of the $35 million renovation of Point State Park overseen by DCNR. Riverlights at The Point is free, open to the public and coincides with the first night of the Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival.

Pittsburgh Glass Center - Consciousness

Come see this exhibit before it closes!
Korean-born artist Eunsuh Choi gives viewers a chance to identify their own dreams with her portrayal of the human need to progress to remembrance in this new exhibition of flameworked glass. She said, “We will try every possible approach towards achieving a certain goal. Although there is much attention and sensitivity towards the things that make us as humans very different from one another, there is an undeniable connection amidst all of us in that we all desire something better for ourselves."

Pittsburgh Thinkathon 2013

Part of the National Day of Civic Hacking

A hackathon (codefest, thinkathon, or startup weekend) is an event where  programmers, graphic designers, interface designers, business people and project managers collaborate on software projects over a finite timeline. A civic hackathon focuses on opportunities to improve cities, counties and municipalities. Ours is made possible through collaboration with the Mayor’s Office, Allegheny County, Pittsburgh Dataworks, BuiltinPgh, and Rustbuilt.

Why should you participate?

Because it’s your city and county.  By understanding and processing the content related to selected civic issues as well as selecting the appropriate delivery technology, significant community issues  can often be theorized and solved over a weekend.
Participants will:
  • Experience the creative process of the start-up culture
  • Enjoy a significant networking opportunity
  • Become part of a community of doers
  • Learn a ton
  • Become more involved in improving the community, city and county
