Farmers’ Markets

 

Farmer’s Markets are a great way to buy healthy food at good prices. You’ll find fresh produce, baked goods, prepared foods, fresh flowers and other specialties. Farmer’s markets provide you with affordable fresh food, help local farms stay in business and play nice with the environment. Think about how much minimizing food transportation and product packaging can effect  cost, and even more importantly… the planet we live on.
Some Markets have already opened, others will be opening soon. The Market Square Farmers Market in Market Square, Forbes Ave. and Market Pl. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. opened on May 16^th.

Pittsburgh International Children’s Festival

The Pittsburgh International Children’s Festival will feature more than 30 free hands-on educational and cultural activities, 2 FREE outdoor stages, roving artists and much more. Featured performances are an additional cost (although if you want to see more than one featured performance, you can save by buying a festival package).

Art Museum Day at the Warhol

 

 



As part of Art Museum Day 2013, The Warhol is offering FREE admission from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14.  Be sure to come in and check out the permanent collection. You can also participate in The Factory, the Museum’s  lively, hands-on studio program.

May Market at Phipps Conservatory

Go to the Phipps Friday and Saturday to check out a huge selection of high-quality garden plants from Phipps and local garden clubs on Phipps’ lawn. You’ll find sustainable plants, tropical plants, native and rain garden plants, organic herb and vegetable seedlings, bulbs from Phipps’ Spring Flower Show, and water plants.
You’ll also find Phipps’ Master Gardeners and Horticulturalists on staff to answer questions, cooking demonstrations and more.

Food in Our Neighborhoods

There are always interesting events at Chatham University!

Register quickly and hurry over to Chatham University’s Food Studies program second annual Food In Our Neighborhood event today. The free workshops are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m on : “Starting Your Own Home Food Business,” “How We Connect People to Neighborhoods through Food and Words,” and “Co-ops, Buying Clubs and Community Gardens: Exploring Alternative Food Options.”

In the afternoon, there will be a Community Foodscapes featuring community organizations from Pittsburgh’s many neighborhoods, samples from Pittsburgh chefs and restaurants, and hands-on activities for all ages including a seed swap, “seed bomb” building, transplanting seedlings, and how to build a worm compost bin!
