sign up by July 8, fish July 16 or 17
The free event includes a picnic lunch and prizes for all children who participate, is split into two days — July 16 is for children 14 and younger, July 17 for adults, senior citizens and people with special needs.
Check-in for the tournament is at 8 a.m. and participants cast their lines at 8:30 a.m.
Members of the Ross police department will be on hand to track and measure the fish being caught, Trophies are awarded to anglers who finish in the top of their categories.
While the event is an opportunity for kids to learn the art of fishing and for experienced people to demonstrate their skills, nobody who ever has participated has been lucky enough to reel in the big one. “It's the legend of Evergreen Park that I've been aware of for at least 15 years,” Peet said. “But so far, nobody's been able to catch that granddaddy carp. So who knows, maybe it will happen this year.”
