CMU International  Film Festival

Entering its 11th year, the CMU IFF wants to encourage and provoke contemporary conversations about race, sexuality, gender, and ethnicity through its 2017 theme, “Faces of Identity.” How we address and insist upon identity-awareness impacts the pursuit of universal tolerance. In order to live the identities we nurture, there must be dialogue - dialogue to confront obstacles to changing the world’s foundations to foster the individual.

The Festival presents selected films that contribute to local, national, and international discussions regarding how we identify ourselves and the many ways in which our notions of identity have changed global culture and vice versa. As is part of the Festival’s mission, these film events will inspire questions and dialogue regarding how communities like those in Pittsburgh can better encourage and support evolving definitions of identity. Earth Hour 2017     8:30 - 9:30 pm March 25

Earth Hour is celebrating its tenth anniversary on Saturday March 25th. Created by wildlife charity WWF in Sydney in 2007, Earth Hour is a global grassroots initiative which takes place annually at the end of March.

Around the world, lights go off as participants turn off all their non-essential electricity, showing their desire to protect the planet and to raise an awareness of climate change.

On Sat 25 March lights will be switched off between 8:30 and 9:30 pm local time. The event is always held close to the spring equinox in the Northern hemisphere, and the autumn equinox in the South. This allows for near-simultaneous sunset times in both hemispheres, so the impact is greater and the message more powerful. Encourage your neighbors to join in!
