The Museum has a first floor interactive area for children with train tables, a decorated Christmas tree and a Lionel toy train display.
The Museum is open thru Jan. 11 on Friday evenings, Saturdays and Sundays.

Monongahela Plunge
On Jan. 1, the Pittsburgh Plunge just sort of happens. There are no leaders, no starting guns - just folks starting the year together. River cops patrol and people on shore help those struggling to climb up the bank.
Suggestion: park downtown and walk to the wharf.

Volunteer on New Year’s Eve
There are 2,015 reasons to be a Highmark First Night Pittsburgh volunteer—free parking, an event button, a volunteer kit packed with surprises—but the only one you really need is this: It’s fun!
There are dozens of ways to help, from being an Activity Monitor, Usher, Button-Checker, even Photographers’ Assistants. Anyone can volunteer: families, school groups, individuals looking for an interesting way to ring in the new year, and age and ability are no obstacle. Volunteers can be grandparents and retirees or elementary-age children. “Sometimes kids [coming to Highmark First Night Pittsburgh] are a little leery of adults. But if you have a kid their own age volunteering, they’ll think, This is cool, there’s another kid here, can’t be too bad. I think it’s great for kids to volunteer because they’re giving of themselves—they’re learning to be helpful.”
Shifts for Highmark First Night Pittsburgh volunteers vary in length, usually only a few hours, and all shifts are over by 11:30 p.m. so you can watch the fireworks and toast 2015 when the clock strikes twelve. And with your free event button, you can get into all the Highmark First Night Pittsburgh events. Volunteer

It's not quite Christmas yet, but that doesn't mean the fun can't start! Count down to Santa's big night with Google's Santa Tracker . New games or scenes are unlocked each day leading up to Christmas Eve when Santa's dashboard is unlocked. Kids can track Santa as he travels around the world.
For more than 50 years, NORAD and its predecessor CONAD (the Continental Air Defense Command) have been tracking Santa's flight with a radar and satellite system. Volunteers at the NORAD program detect heat from Santa's sleigh and Rudolph's bright red nose to give real time location updates. The tradition began when a Sears ad misprinted a telephone number for children to call Santa. Instead of reaching the "Sears Santa," the phone number reached CONAD. The Director of Operations and staff checked the radar for indication of Santa and the tradition continues every year.
